MY home town BAUKO

Bauko is a 4th class municipality in the province of Mountain Province, Philippines. It is the province's most populous town. According to the latest census, it has a population of 30,149 people in 5,332 households.

i am from poblacion bauko mountain province

 The Legend of its Name
Stories which were told from generations reveal that the people who first settled in the present day municipality of Bauko are the couple named Padoka and Adian. They lived through planting root crops, domesticating and hunting wild animals in the woods.

One day, their pregnant sow got out of its pen and never came back. The couple searched the immediate vicinity but the pig is nowhere to be found. Adian searched farther where she discovered the sow’s footprints headed eastward going down the lower dike-like mountain called Kamanbaneng. They followed the footprints until they reached a cave-in near a spring in Mt. Kipay-an where they finally saw the pig. The area is packed with trees called “Baukok.” Padoka surveyed the land and found out that it has a good and friendly terrain which made him decide to transfer his whole family there.
As the number of people who live in this place expanded as a result of migration and intermarriage between the children of Padoka and Adian and nearby communities, there began rampant cutting down of trees which they used to build houses. As the number of trees dwindled, the descendants of Opeg, son of Padoka and Adian started calling the place “Baukok” which served as memory of the trees that once abounded in the place. This later on evolved to Bauko which is how this municipality is now known.

What is an IGOROT

IGOROTS are the people of the Cordillera region, in the Philippines island of Luzon. The Igorot form two subgroups: the larger group lives in the south, central and western areas, and is very adept at rice-terrace farming. The Igorots are grouped into six ethno-linguistic groups, the Bontoc, Ibaloi, Ifugao, Isneg (or Apayao), Kalinga, and the Kankana-ey

since i am a kannkan-ey im going  to talk about it

 The Kankana-ey
The Kankana-ey's domain includes Western Mountain Province, Northern Benguet, Southeastern Ilocos Sur. Like most Igorot ethnic groups, the Kankana-ey built sloping terraces to maximize farm space in the rugged terrain of the Cordilleras. Kankan-ey's of Western Mountain Province from the municipalities of Sagada and Besao identify themselves as part of a tribe called Applai or Aplai. Two famous institutions of the Kankana-ey of Mountain Province are the dap-ay, the men's dormitory and civic center, and the ebgan, the girls' dormitory where courtship between young men and women took place

The Kankana-eys also have difference in the way they dress. The women soft-speaking Kankana-ey's dress has a color combination of black, white and red. The design of the upper attire is a criss-crossed style of black, white and red colors. The skirt or "tapis" is a combination of stripes of black, white and red. The women hard-speaking Kankana-ey's dress is composed of mainly red and black with a little white styles, as for the skirt or "tapis" which is mostly called "bakget" and "gateng". The men wore a g-string as it is called but it is mainly known as "wanes" for the Kanakana-ey's of Besao and Sagada. The design of the "wanes" as they call it may vary according to social status or municipality

Kankana-ey's major dances include tayaw, pattong, takik, a wedding dance, and balangbang. The tayaw is a community dance that is usually done in weddings it maybe also danced by the Ibalois but has a different style.. Pattong, also a community dance from Mountain Province which every municipality has its own style. Balangbang is the modernized word for the word Pattong. There are also some other dance that the Kankana-ey's dance like the sakkuting, pinanyuan(wedding dance)and bogi-bogi(courtship dance). The Kankana-ey house are built like the other houses of the Igorots, which also reflect their social status

heres how the dress looks like
